We currently have over 300 men and women who volunteer to become a friend to one of our students. Mentors must commit to a minimum of one year of service and a minimum of two in-person visits per month with the student. While we ask for the minimum commitment, we hope that the relationship develops and that time allows for service well past the one year. The average length of our mentor matches is five years and a few mentors have worked with the same student from Kindergarten to 12th grade.
Denver Kids, Inc. greatly appreciates the time and effort contributed by the many community members who make a tremendous difference in the lives of the students in the Denver Kids, Inc. program. For this reason, Denver Kids, Inc. works with each mentor to assure a satisfactory match, and to provide flexibility to accommodate a volunteer's schedule.
In order to provide the safest environment for our volunteers, our students and their families, we have an in-depth application and screening process for volunteers. This includes an application, interview, references, fingerprinting, driving history report and training.
To begin the mentor process, please complete the appropriate application and return it to Denver Kids, Inc. The mentor application can be accessed by visiting our website, http://denverkidsinc.org, and clicking on the Mentor/Volunteer tab or email Rachel at rachel_sprague@dpsk12.org to request the application.
