STEM Resource: National Math and Science Initiative

This far-reaching initiative seeks to develop the diversity of math and science professionals in the 21st century by encouraging student STEM interest today.  Underwritten in part by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the NMSI acts, in its own words, as a ”strategic holding company, “ identifying proven teaching strategies and providing scale-up grants to make them available on a wider scale.  The site contains news, blogs, publications, and other information on how organizations can become involved in this public-private effort.  For more information visit - http://www.nationalmathandscience.org/.

 
STEM Resource: American Association for the Advancement of Science

Funded by the National Science Foundation, the American Association for the Advancement of  Science created Project 2061 as part of a National STEM Digital Library (NSDL) initiative.   To develop literacy in Science, Mathematics, and Technology,  the project seeks to align K-12 science content standards with resources available in digital libraries.  The website includes information on associated publications discussing benchmarks for science literacy, newsletters, professional development resources, and blueprints for reform.  For more information visit - http://www.project2061.org/.

STEM Resource: American Association of Physics Teachers

For 80 years, the American Association of Physics Teachers has worked to develop an understanding and appreciation of physics among both teachers and students.  To increase the diversity of physics practitioners, the organization has helped teachers develop their pedagogical skills and physics knowledge in order to further their students’ interest in Physics.  The website contains resources for teachers and students, career information and a job board, information on grants and scholarships, contests and competitions, and information on local chapters.  Various publications, including The Physics Teacher, are also available.   For more information visit -  http://www.aapt.org/
